Comprehensive Hearing Evaluations
A comprehensive hearing evaluation is a thorough assessment designed to understand your hearing health and identify any hearing loss or medically-related issues. Evaluations are conducted by a qualified audiologist. This assessment determines the type, degree, and configuration of hearing loss and other ear-related issues to guide appropriate treatment or intervention. Evaluations will include:
- A thorough case history to understand each individuals’ communication needs and medical history
- Diagnostic testing to accurately identify ear and hearing disorders
- Counseling regarding the assessment results
- Appropriate referrals as needed
Hearing Loss Intervention
Following the diagnosis of hearing loss and/or tinnitus, timely intervention is essential. The hearing loss intervention clinic offers personalized services including selection, evaluation, fitting, and ongoing management of assistive hearing technologies. Experienced audiologists work with patients and families to determine the most appropriate style, technology level, and device features. Clinic offerings encompass a wide range of solutions such as hearing aids, hearing protection and earplugs, Bluetooth accessories, and hearing-assistive technologies like FM systems. Comprehensive counseling is provided to ensure effective use and maintenance of devices, maximizing their benefits. Advanced real-ear measurement technology is utilized to precisely tailor hearing aid prescriptions for optimal performance and comfort.
Tinnitus Management
Following the diagnosis of tinnitus, specialized services including assessment, personalized management plans, and fitting of assistive hearing technologies designed to alleviate tinnitus symptoms may be warranted. Available device options include hearing aids and sound therapy devices. Tinnitus may be related to hearing loss, medications, stress, and many other conditions. Based on the comprehensive hearing evaluation, the audiologist will work with each patient and their other healthcare providers to provide as much tinnitus management and relief as possible.
Implantable Device Clinic
Comprehensive care for patients involving cochlear implants and osseointegrated implants is provided. This includes thorough evaluation to determine implant candidacy, detailed counseling, and a collaborative, multidisciplinary team approach to select the most suitable implant based on individual needs. Following surgical implantation, services continue with initial device activation, ongoing mapping and programming sessions, and expert troubleshooting to ensure optimal device performance.
Electrophysiologic Testing
In certain cases, specialized electrophysiologic services to assess auditory function may be needed. These tests include Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), which checks how sound signals travel from the ear to the brain, and Electrocochleography (ECochG), which measures the inner ear’s activity. These painless and non-invasive tests are especially helpful for diagnosing hearing issues, balance problems, and certain ear conditions when regular hearing tests aren’t enough. They provide important information to guide effective treatment and care.
Vestibular Clinic
The vestibular clinic is dedicated to evaluating and managing balance and dizziness problems. Using specialized tests, audiologists assess how the inner ear and brain work together to maintain balance. The goal is to identify the underlying causes of symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, or unsteadiness. Based on the evaluation, the clinic provides personalized treatment recommendations and referrals to other healthcare providers if needed, helping patients regain stability and improve their quality of life.
Newborn Hearing Screenings
Newborn hearing screenings are an essential part of early healthcare designed to check a baby’s hearing soon after birth. Typically, these evaluations are performed at bedside before the newborn leaves the hospital. In some cases, a repeat evaluation or second screening may be needed. Audiologists perform these screenings using safe, non-invasive equipment that measures how the baby’s ears respond to sound. Early detection through newborn hearing screening ensures that any hearing concerns are addressed promptly, giving children the best possible start. This is a crucial component of early intervention and support for a child’s speech and language development.
