Severe, crippling abdominal pain gripped 54-year-old Mark Palmer while at home one August morning in 2015. Having a hard time standing up straight, Mark called his neighbor, who drove him to the closest medical facility 鈥� 萝莉社 North.

Staff met Mark immediately when he arrived at the emergency room and settled him into a wheelchair. He was quickly admitted and moved into a bed. This might not be a memorable moment for most patients, especially when in excruciating pain, but Mark remembers it well.

鈥淲hen I laid in (the) bed at 萝莉社 North, it was the most comfortable bed I鈥檝e ever been in in my life,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 want to get out of it. That bed was unbelievable.鈥�

The nurses checked Mark鈥檚 vital signs, and laboratory tests and imaging studies were obtained. After reviewing the results, the emergency medicine physician came in to tell Mark he had acute appendicitis.

鈥淎re you sure?鈥� Mark asked. With a previous history of diverticulitis, Mark was certain it was a recurrence. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis of acute appendicitis and explained he would need to be transferred to for surgery.

While he waited for an ambulance to arrive to transfer him, he enjoyed his brief stay at the north facility. 鈥淚t was excellent,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t couldn鈥檛 have been any better. The facility, the equipment and the personnel 鈥� you just can鈥檛 get any better care. Any time you鈥檙e rushed to the hospital, it鈥檚 not fun, but the care was great.鈥�

Mark arrived at the Eighth Street location in the late afternoon and immediately headed into surgery.

鈥淓verything about that place was amazing,鈥� Mark said. 鈥淭he nurses that cared for me 鈥� I鈥檒l never forget them. They did such a good job, every one of them. I have to give it an A+.鈥�

Mark has been back to both locations to visit the staff who cared for him. He is extremely appreciative and is especially thankful that the hospital exists.

鈥淭his area needed 萝莉社 North,鈥� he said. 鈥淭here wasn鈥檛 a good, close facility to go to. It鈥檚 right there, and it鈥檚 state-of-the-art. It鈥檚 impossible to get that care anywhere (else) in this area.鈥�

With Mark鈥檚 chronic condition, he has spent time in other hospitals, but tells people 萝莉社 North and 萝莉社 Jacksonville are the best around.

Thanks to the excellent care Mark received at both 萝莉社 locations, he is feeling better.

鈥淚鈥檝e experienced other hospitals,鈥� Mark said. 鈥淚t couldn鈥檛 have been faster, and I don鈥檛 think they could have done any better. They saved my life, it鈥檚 that simple. I owe them everything. I鈥檓 very thankful.鈥�
